Updated Placement Information regarding AAA, Little League Minors and Little League Majors:

Tryouts will be rescheduled for February or March of 2018.

Please note the following changes regarding league placements which will be in effect for the 2018 season:

Holden Baseball is pleased to announce new changes to our player placement guidelines, beginning with the Spring 2018 baseball season. These changes reflect our consideration of several important factors in the player placement process, including:

  • The modifications to player age rules made by Little League Baseball, Inc.
  • Constructive feedback from Holden families who have players in the league
  • Current player school grade considerations
  • Effective player development that allows for enjoyment of the game at each level
  • Player tryout scores at Holden Baseball tryouts
  • Coach evaluation scores of all players from the prior baseball season

It is important to understand the age cutoff guidelines set by Little League Baseball: all players from T-Ball through Little League Majors now follow an August 31st age cutoff to determine their "Little League Age". For example, a player registered for Spring baseball who is currently 8 years old, but will turn 9 on August 3rd of 2018, would be considered "LL-9". A player who is currently 8 years old, but will turn 9 on September 20th of 2018, would be considered "LL-8".

Changes to placement levels:

  • AA Level consists of LL-8 and LL-9 players. All players who are LL-9 will automatically be assigned to the AA level (or higher). In addition, all players who are in 3rd grade in school will automatically be assigned to the AA level (or higher).
  • AAA Level consists of LL-8, LL-9, and LL-10 players. Players who are LL-8 or LL-9 may be selected for this level based on coach feedback from the previous season, and player tryout scores. All players who are LL-10 will automatically be assigned to the AAA level (or higher). In addition, all players who are in 4th grade in school will automatically be assigned to the AAA level (or higher).
  • LL-Minors Level consists of LL-9, LL-10, and LL-11 players. Players who are LL-9 or LL-10 may be selected for this level based on coach feedback from the previous season, and player tryout scores. All players who are LL-11 will automatically be assigned to the LL-Minors level (or higher). In addition, all players who are in 5th grade in school will automatically be assigned to the LL-Minors level (or higher).
  • LL-Majors Level consists of LL-10, LL-11, and LL-12 players. Players who are LL-10 or LL-11 may be selected for this level based on coach feedback from the previous season, and player tryout scores. All players who are LL-12 will automatically be assigned to the LL-Majors level. In addition, all players who are in 6th grade in school will automatically be assigned to the LL-Majors level.

Babe Ruth is for players who will be 13, 14 or 15 by no later than April 30, 2018.  First year Babe Ruth players will be invited to attend a Player Evaluation session in the Spring of 2018 prior to being placed on a team.  Babe Ruth teams play a 20 game schedule followed by a double-elimination playoff.

Little League Big League Baseball is for players who will be 16, 17 or 18 by no later than April 30, 2018.  Selection to Holden’s Big League Baseball team is based on tryouts that will be scheduled in the Spring of 2018.  Players who register to play Big League Baseball that are not selected to the team will have their registration fees refunded.

What equipment is required?

The only required equipment is a glove, and for boys looking to play the catcher position a cup. As players move up through the league they will find that many players also have cleats, as well as their own helmets and bats.

Where can I find information on Legal Bats?

Please consult the Little League website to determine which bats are approved for Little League play.
